Free Blood Pressure Screenings Offered to Community
August 20, 2004
A free blood pressure screening and educational workshop about blood pressure and heart health will take place Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Southwest Community Center. The screening and workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all community members.
According to the American Heart Association, one in five Americans has high blood pressure, and 30 percent of those who have it, don’t know it. If high blood pressure is not controlled it can lead to strokes, heart attacks, heart failure or kidney failure.
Community members are encouraged to take advantage of this free opportunity to ensure that their heart is healthy and functioning well. Medical students from the University of Rochester School of Medicine will provide the screenings.
The Southwest, or SWAN, Community Center is located at 275 Dr. Samuel McCree Way off of Genesee Street.
For more information prior to the screening, call the center at 436-8201.
