Christopher’s Challenge Walk-a-Thon Set for Nov. 7
September 28, 2004
WHAT: Christopher’s Challenge Walk-a-Thon
WHEN: 11:30 a.m., Sunday, November 7, 2004
WHERE: Irondequoit Mall
Christopher’s Challenge Walk-a-thon will again raise money to help increase the number of people in the national registry of bone marrow and stem cell donors, and to support patient care initiatives at the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).
The walk-a-thon will take place on Sunday, November 7 at the Irondequoit Mall. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the walk starts at Noon. Walkers will take two trips around the inside of the mall, completing approximately 1.5 miles.
Organizers hope to raise $14,000 at this year’s event. Half of the proceeds help Christopher’s Challenge to pay for the blood typing of potential marrow donors who are joining the national registry. The other half of the proceeds go to the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at URMC. In the past, these funds have been used for a variety of things including purchasing chairs that convert to beds for family members who need to stay overnight in the transplant unit, and helping families with uninsured expenses. Proceeds have also purchased movies, video games and video game players to support patients and their families during treatment.
