Suzuki Piano Play-a-thon to Benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital
January 17, 2005
With help from their teachers, young musicians are holding a fund-raiser they hope will hit all the right notes with the community. Proceeds from this weekend’s event will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong.
Organized by the Suzuki Piano Teachers’ Association, the Piano Play-a-thon is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at EastView Mall in Victor. This fall, piano students collected pledges from family and friends, who agreed they would provide a certain amount of money for every minute the young pianists spent practicing the piano each day for two weeks in December.
On Jan. 15, the students – ranging in age from 4 to 18 – will take their finely tuned skills to EastView Mall. “I know there are several of my 5-year-old students playing,” says Roberta Honadle, chair of the Rochester-area Suzuki Piano Teachers’ Association. “We’re going to have recitals starting on the hour, and the children will bring the money they received by collecting pledges. We have some kids who have raised more than $300!”
