Friendly Basketball Competition Leads to Big Donation for Kids
January 17, 2005
For the fourth consecutive year, students from Pittsford-Mendon High School and Pittsford Sutherland High School organized a charity basketball tournament to benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. The most recent tournament, held Dec. 17 at the University of Rochester’s Goergen Gym, was a terrific success.
More than $28,000 was raised for the new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit that opened last month at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Fund-raising for the unit continues, and hospital leaders are thrilled to have the support of tournament organizers.
In four years, the tournament – known as the Rainbow Classic – has raised more than $80,000. The event keeps alive the memory of Katelyn Pasley and Ryan McCluski, two children who were cared for at Golisano Children’s Hospital. The tournament, which draws thousands of fans each year, features match-ups of the boys and girls varsity basketball teams from Pittsford Sutherland High School against those from Pittsford-Mendon High School.
