When faced with sudden or chronic illnesses or disabilities such as cancer, diabetes or a serious injury, finding help can seem daunting to families. The Family Support Committee at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong aims to help families find the assistance they need by holding a free resource fair from to Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the Kornberg Atrium at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
“We want to provide as many resources and as much information as possible to help remove some of the barriers in the hopes of improving the quality of life for these children,” said Carla LeVant, L.M.S.W., senior social worker. “We are fortunate in Rochester to have many organizations and service providers and we want to give them a chance to share their information.”
Among those organizations participating in the fair are Dazzle School of Visual and Performing Arts, Inc, Flower City Health Care Services, The Advocacy Center, Monroe BOCES 2, Visiting Nurse Service, Daystar, Camp Good Days and Special Times, The ARC of Monroe County, Lifetime Care, Sibley Nursing Personnel Service, Inc., American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Parent to Parent of New York State, SKIP of New York Inc., The Kirsch Center at Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities and Avenues to Independence/DePaul.
Refreshments will be provided and free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Atrium entrance. Parking assistance is also available for families who park in the StrongMemorialHospital ramp. RTS bus line 19 S. Plymouth runs along Elmwood and can stop in front of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Bus lines 5 South Avenue and 8 GeneseePark run every other trip to StrongMemorialHospital.
