Comics for Kids to Benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital
September 23, 2005
Abbie Record was barely 2 years old when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Over the next nine months, Abbie’s parents, Dawn and Tom, and her sister, Megan, would come to know the staff at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong as caring, dedicated and talented health professionals.
“My husband and I felt that having a state-of-the-art facility like Golisano Children’s Hospital in the area allowed us to stay local,” said Dawn of Webster. “We could still spend time with Megan, who was having a very tough time with her baby sister being sick.”
Dawn said she and her husband were determined to give back to the hospital after Abbie passed away in June 2001. They have participated in the annual Stroll for Strong Kids and golf tournaments. And the family inspired local comedian Tim Thomas to raise money for the hospital in a unique fundraiser next weekend.
“I know she still grieves years later,” Tim said, referring to his friend Dawn. “This is one way to help.”
Comics for Kids will be an evening packed with fun – and fund-raising. The comedy show begins at Friday, Sept. 30, at the WebsterColumbusCenter, 70 Barrett Drive, Webster. It includes performances by Tim, a 20-year comic veteran, and nationally touring comedians Mike Goss and Nick Siracuse. All proceeds will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital. The event is sponsored by Wright Wisner Distributing Corp., Dawn’s employer.
The doors open at at which time a silent auction begins. Proceeds from the auction will go toward overseas relief efforts of CrossroadsCommunityChurch in Webster. A live auction for an eight-course Cajun dinner with wine pairing in the winner’s home will benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.
Ticket donations are $25, tax-deductible and available by calling 273-5948 in advance.
