Strong Experts to Discuss Osteoporosis at Oct. 20 Health Talk

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) and Strong Health Women’s Services will kick off a health education series dedicated to women with an Osteoporosis presentation from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on World Osteoporosis Day, Thursday, Oct. 20, at the JCC, 1200 Edgewood Ave., Rochester.

Vivian Lewis, M.D., professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and director of the division of Reproductive Endocrinology, and Freda Hannafon, nurse practitioner at Strong’s Osteoporosis Center, will provide an update on the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis as well as options for prevention including exercise, nutrition and hormone therapy.

Future topics in the fall women’s health series include Migraines and Headaches, Dec. 1, and Stress, Anxiety and Health, Dec. 15. Winter sessions in 2006 will cover Menopause on Jan. 12, Beat the Winter Blues on Feb. 9, and Women’s Cancers on March 2. Spring talks will address Preparing for Pregnancy, March 30, and Aging Successfully, May 4.

The women’s health education series is offered for free to JCC members and for $5 per session for non-members. Registration is required as space is limited. To register, please call (585) 461-2000.
