October 24, 2005
About 900 people will attend the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Gala Auction Saturday, Oct. 29, at USAirports Air Charters Aircraft Hangar, 240 Airport Way. The event runs from to .
The co-chairs of this year’s event are Howie Jacobson, a well-known local businessman and chair of the hospital’s board of directors, and Michael Haymes, president of ReMax Realty Group in Pittsford and a member of the hospital’s board.
Jacobson will also serve as auctioneer during the live-auction portion of the festivities, and Nik and the Nice Guys will provide musical entertainment. There will be a silent auction for items including trips, sports packages, restaurant packages and jewelry. The evening will also include the drawing for a 2006 H3 Hummer.
Guests will have the opportunity to buy kites created by artist Paul Knoblauch for $3,500 each. They will be placed in the corridor leading into the new William and Mildred Levine Pediatric Surgical Suite now under construction. On display will be the lighthouse which will become the focal point of the waiting room for the surgical suite.
ESL Federal Credit Union will serve as presenting sponsor the event for the third year in a row, and the relationship between ESL and the hospital has proven to be a fruitful relationship, especially for the kids served by Golisano Children’s Hospital. The USAirports Air Charters Aircraft Hangar is made available to Golisano Children’s Hospital and its supporters thanks to the continued generosity of Anthony and Elaine Costello.
Last year’s gala raised $ 418,000 for the region’s only children’s hospital, and this weekend’s gala is expected to top that.
