URMC Surgery Center Project Timeline
August 15, 2006
First URMC space-planning sessions begin, with the original concept calling for a 23,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center.
September 2006 to December 2006
Locations are researched and potential sites identified for the center.
January 2007
URMC engages national consulting company DJ Sullivan, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, for advice on space design based on their experience with sites across the country.
February 2007 to December 2007
Location is identified and lease documents are developed with the land owner. URMC partners with Castle Office Group, LLC, to develop the center.
April 2007
Steering Committee is established and begins to meet monthly. Comprised of more than 80 members, the committee includes management team members, core team consultants, and representatives from Strong Memorial Hospital’s pre- and post anesthesia, post anesthesia care unit, materials processing and distribution, and operating room staffs.
May 2007
URMC Board approves the filing of Certificate of Need documents to the New York State Department of Health for the development of an ambulatory surgery center.
June 2007 to February 2008
Concept for the center is developed, designed, and reviewed for approval by its potential end-users.
July 2007
Strong Memorial Hospital submits Certificate of Need documents to the New York State Department of Health.
July 2007 to January 2008
Municipal applications are submitted by Castle Office Group, LLC, reviewed and approved.
July 2007
Michael Maloney, M.D., is named Medical Director for the ambulatory surgery center.
December 2007
New York State Department of Health approves Certificate of Need application.
September 2007
Stefan Lucas, M.D., is named Director of Anesthesia for the ambulatory surgery center.
June 2008
Ground is broken to launch construction of an 80,000-square-foot site to house the ambulatory surgery center and other health care tenants.
January 2008
Janet Remizowski is named Clinical Director for the ambulatory surgery center.
July 2009
URMC celebrates the opening of the University of Rochester Medical Center Surgery Center
August 2009
Orthopaedic, otolaryngology and plastic surgery cases are scheduled at the Center and the first surgery patients are seen on Aug. 10.
On the building’s second floor, URMC Pain Treatment Center welcomes patients to its new home.
September 2009
URMC Division of Colorectal Surgery opens for patient care on the building’s second floor.
January 2010
URMC Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy Center welcomes patients to its second-floor offices.
