New Provider Course: Essentials of Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring
- 200 Level Course-
Using NICHD nomenclature, the New Provider Course quickly and effectively teaches new obstetric care providers the basics of fetal heart rate monitoring interpretation and basic fetal physiology.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the New Provider Course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify factors that place the fetus at risk.
- Discuss normal perinatal physiology.
- Select appropriate fetal heart monitoring methods.
- Define components of systemic assessment of fetal heart monitoring information.
- Define normal and abnormal uterine activity.
- List factors affecting fetal heart rate monitoring interpretation.
- Discuss physiologic interventions.
- Describe communication and documentation responsibilities.
- Analyze fetal monitoring information, using a systematic approach to interpret components of the fetal heart rate in actual cases.

- Determining Fetal Heart Rate Baseline

- Causes of Fetal Heart Rate Changes
- Uterine Contractions/Intrauterine Pressure Catheter
- Fetal Heart Rate Patterns including Early, Late, and Variable Decelerations; Categories; and Sinusoidal Versus Pseudosinusoidal Fetal Heart Rates
- Antepartum Testing
- Communication and Documentation
Review Test
After completing the New Provider Course, the user can complete the review test, which includes up to ten clinical case studies. Each clinical case study includes a fetal heart rate tracing for interpretation.
After submitting and completing the test, a printable grade is displayed immediately, as well as explanations for the answers
For an additional fee, participants have the opportunity to earn nursing contact hours.
Nine nursing contact hours are awarded upon successful completion of the review test.
