James R. Scott, MD

“Show Me the Evidence”- The Advantages and Pitfalls of Evidence - Based Medicine


James R. Scott, MD is a graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving his Bachelors of Science degree in 1959 and later his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1962.  He completed both his residency and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Iowa.  In 1973, Dr. Scott completed a fellowship in Reproductive Immunology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas, Texas.   


Dr. Scott is currently a Professor (Chair Emeritus) of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Previously, Dr. Scott had been the Chairman for the Department from 1977 until 1995, and the H. A. and Edna Benning Presidential Professor from 1995 until 1999. Dr. Scott is revered internationally as an expert on recurrent miscarriage, pregnancy in transplant patients, and immunologic problems in obstetrics and gynecology. 


Dr. Scott has authored and co-authored an abundance of scientific publications and medical textbooks.  Currently, he is the Editor – in – Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Co – Editor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology.
