  1. Objectives - A list of objectives has been included in this orientation manual for obstetrics, gynecology, and ambulatory/specialties weeks. It is expected that all students accomplish each of these objectives prior to the end of the clerkship. During your clerkship, please fill in the passport list as you observe/perform the various items listed. You will need to bring your completed passport with you to the written exam at the end of the clerkship.
  2. Structured Learning Experiences:
  • Morning and Evening Rounds
  • Resident Didactics - Wednesday mornings (RGH students)
  • Grand Rounds @ SMH - Thursdays, 7:30 - 8:30 AM (exception: 1st Thursday of month - faculty only meeting)
  • Thursday Didactics @ SMH, 9:00 AM - Noon
  • Journal Club (once a month - date determined by Resident Lecture Schedule)
  • Site Coordinator Meetings (to be determined)

Attendance is required at all activities listed above. This is true even if you were on call the prior evening. Medical student conferences always take precedence over patient care activities and should never be missed.

  1. Resident Assignment – During your first week it will be helpful to work with one resident to learn the rules of the road. The chief resident on service will assign you to a resident the first day. In the beginning, you should work with your resident all day from morning rounds to sign out rounds. If your resident goes to the OR, you should go with him/her. You will begin to work with additional residents after the first few days to expand your educational opportunities.
  2. Learning Resources - Each hospital will have textbooks and other educational materials available for student use. Textbooks are also on reserve in the Miner Library and in the libraries at the affiliated hospitals.
