Obstetrics Bylaws (Nights and Weekends) at Strong Memorial Hospital

  • The night float team will meet at 5:00 PM weeknights and 7:00 AM Saturday/Sunday in the sign in/out room (near the birth centers).
  • You should have your rounds completed and progress notes written prior to OB sign-in rounds.
  • While on the night float team, students should be available on the Triage/Labor Floor to evaluate and follow patients.
  • After you participate in the delivery, you will need to round on that patient daily.
  • Fetal Heart Tracing Conference is held on Tuesday mornings at 7:00 AM in the Lund Room (3-3211). Attendance is required.

  • Perinatal Management Conference (Shark Rounds) is held every Friday at 12:00 NOON in the Lund Room (room 3-3211). Attendance is required.
  • Fetal Heart Tracing Conference is held on Tuesday mornings at 7:00 AM in the Lund Room (3-3211). Attendance is required.
  • The perinatologist makes rounds daily with the OB chief resident and the OB team. Chief resident will determine the time.

Gynecology Bylaws at Strong Memorial Hospital

  • The gynecology team meets at approximately 7 AM every morning in the 2nd floor OR staff lounge. (Confirm time with GYN Chief.)
  • You will need to arrive early at the hospital each day in order to complete your patient rounds before the gynecology team meets.
  • While on gynecology, the GYN chief will make the OR schedule available to the GYN residents and make suggestions regarding which cases will be educationally beneficial for you to attend. This will include urogynecology cases.
  • Students on the service should distribute themselves so that each student has the opportunity to see a wide variety of cases.
  • Always introduce yourself to the attendings doing the case.
  • It is also important to review the patient's chart prior to working in the operating room.
  • After surgery, you should round on the patient daily and record progress notes.
