Research strengthsObstetrics and Gynecology
Summary: OB/GYN researchers are at the forefront of several areas: autism, pelvic pain, endometriosis, human papillomavirus and cervical cancer, bladder function, and endocrine disorders. In addition, investigators are concentrating efforts on reducing the incidence of pregnancy loss and birth defects by unraveling the mechanisms by which viruses, drugs, immune responses and environmental chemicals may be harming the embryo/fetus. The department ranked No. 12 in National Institutes of Health funding, bringing in nearly $4 million for fiscal 2004. The university's Strong Fertility and Reproductive Science Center offers a full range of services to diagnose and treat infertility. Leadership: James
