Summary: Basic research studies into various aspects of musculoskeletal disease have expanded dramatically during the last few years in Rochester. With a world class research laboratory and internationally recognized faculty, the Department is among those at the forefront of orthopaedic research nationwide, particularly in the areas of arthritis, osteoporosis, bone tumors, and in growth and development.

Funding and Ranking: The Department of Orthopaedics' Musculoskeletal Research Division received close to $2.7 million in research funding last year from foundations, private donors, industry, and the NIH. The Department now ranks number 2 in NIH orthopaedic research funding and received $2.3 million in NIH grants last year.
