PACS 2007
7th Annual Conference

About this Conference

The Department of Imaging Sciences of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry is pleased to invite you to attend its 7th Annual PACS Conference, "Informatics…The Foundation of the Digital Healthcare Enterprise.”  The conference will be held March 20-23, 2007 at The Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas.

This year’s Conference will focus on the nuts and bolts and do’s and don’ts of how to implement and integrate the multitude of clinical information systems (data and images) into a cohesive and seamless digital healthcare enterprise for institutions with minimal information technology (IT) and medical informatics support.

PACS 2007 will stress the fundamentals of implementing both the data and image information management systems in the Digital Healthcare Enterprise. The five Practicum sessions will provide the foundation for understanding the more advanced topics of the conference. These presentations have been updated to be of value to the more experienced in the field.

Two separate Learning Tracks will be used to provide an interactive forum for:

  • Planning and developing an RFP and implementing RIS, PACS, CPOE, EHR and communicating in a digital environment
  • The technology, workflow and medical informatics requirements for instituting the digital environment in clinical specialties other than radiology and in critical care areas of the healthcare facility.

Informatics, Advanced Visualization and Storage and Storage Management Software will be featured in sessions that will include lectures by leaders in these fields and proffered technological presentations by industry leaders in the healthcare industry demonstrating advancements that improve productivity, streamline workflow, reduce errors, improve patient care and reduce costs. The sessions will conclude with an “Ask the Experts” interactive panel.

Other topics include risk management from a healthcare and IT perspective, productivity and workflow, RHIOs, ergonomics and the impact of HIPAA on the digital environment.

A nationally recognized faculty will present these topics along with their experiences – both positive and negative – of operating in a digital environment with special emphasis on the smaller healthcare institutions and imaging centers. Attendees will have the hands-on opportunity of working with and viewing the technical offerings of leading companies in the digital healthcare market. Ample time will be provided for attendees to interact with both the faculty and exhibitors. The conference will feature a Welcome Reception on March 20, 2007 plus three breakfast buffets, three lunch buffets, and morning and afternoon breaks.

PACS 2007 is designed for:

  • Practicing radiologists, cardiologists and other physicians who are considering implementing digital imaging into their practices and need to acquire a basic understanding of medical informatics as well as physicians already working in a digital environment who need to learn the latest technologies and practices that improve productivity and streamline workflow.
  • Radiology and Cardiology Administrators, Radiology Technologists, PACS Administrators and Trainers, Imaging Managers, IS/IT Managers and staff who need to understand re-engineered clinical workflow and functional requirements to operate efficiently in a digital environment.
