Sites | Databases | The Human Genome ProjectHuman Genome Project Information (Department of Energy) National Human Genome Research Institute (NIH) Genome News. The genome news network is a publication of the Center for the Advancement of Genomics (TCAG), which is one of several organizations sponsored by the J Craig Venter Science Foundation. See also the Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR). Celera Publication Sites offer some free information, but use of the "Celera Discovery System" is by subscription. National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) including submitting information to GenBank, literature databases, and many other resources. Genome Map 1996 is a somewhat outdated but very attractive introduction with links to expanded disease information. GeneMap '99 is an update. The definitive view is from the MapViewer. Comprehensive SitesThe Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) includes reports from research groups working in areas such as sequencing, fragment analysis, microarrays, and proteomics; discussion forums; the Journal of Biomolecular Techniques; and notices of upcoming events. Australian National Genomic Information Service (ANGIS) is a subscription service offering software, databases, documentation, training and support for biologists (offers 30 day trial subscriptions). Has a very extensive and well-organized resource list under "links". Baylor College of Medicine Human Genome Sequencing Center. Berkeley Drosophilia Genome Project. Fruitflys. Of particular interest: Genome Annotation Assessment Project. Broad Institute. (Research collaborative of MIT, Harvard, and the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research.) The goal of the NCI's Cancer Genome Anatomy Project is "to determine the gene expression profiles of normal, precancer, and cancer cells, leading eventually to improved detection, diagnosis, and treatment for the patient." International Communication Forum in Human Molecular Genetics (HUM- MOLGEN). Computational Biology at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Data and tools available include GRAIL and text-based searching. The Sanger Center, UK, includes links to chromosome-specific resources, lots of databases. Ensembl software (a collaborative effort with EMBL-EBI) produces and maintains automatic baseline annotation on metazoan genomes. The Signaling Gateway. University of Kansas Medical Center Genetics Education Center has grade school - college educational links. The official central repository for genomic mapping data resulting from the Human Genome Initiative. Developed at Johns Hopkins (1990-2002), hosted by Toronto's Hopsital for Sick Children (1998-2002), now maintained by RTI International. Mouse Genome Databases from the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Downloadable as text or FilemakerPro files. The Protein Data Bank operated by Rutgers, the UC San Diego Supercomputer Center, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, contains about 20,000 released atomic coordinate entries. Stanford Microarray Database "stores raw and normalized data from microarray experiments, as well as their corresponding image files." MRC Rosalind Franklin Center for Genomics Research. Resource Center includes Dysmorphic Human-Mouse Morphology Database and MOWSE peptide mass database, among other resources. The WIT Project attempts to produce metabolic reconstructions for sequenced (or partially sequenced) genomes. The site appears to be undergoing renovation. DiseasesAtlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology from the University Hospital of Poitiers. Focuses on "genes involved in cancer, cytogenetics, clinical entities in cancer, and cancer-prone diseases". Searchable by any of these categories. Links to information about conditions as well as organizations, support groups, advocacy groups, etc. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Division of Medical Genetics provides information and protocols for the International Skeletal Dysplasia Registry. G6PD Deficiency. An introduction to the genetic, physiological, molecular and clinical aspects of "the most common human enzyme deficiency in the world." Genetic Testing and TherapeuticsThe Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) Test Directory allows searches for labs offering infectious diseases tests, solid tumors tests, hematopathology tests, and inherited diseases tests. Biochemical Genetics, UCSD, provides information about their test offerings, links to many other sites, and a set of tools and functions (e.g. calculate body surface area). Bio.com.
