Research Overview

Dr. Chen's postgraduate research at the University of California, Davis, focused on the pathogenesis of triplet-repeat expansion disorders--Friederich's ataxia and Fragile-X syndrome. Projects during her fellowships included profiling N-truncated fragments and intact PTH by LC/MS/MS; detection of genetic defects in UBE3A gene; high-throughput detection of polymorphisms in genes encoding inflammatory proteins using microfluidic arrays; evaluation of point-of-care devices; quantitation of signature-peptides of parathyroid fragments by tandem mass spectometry; and direct fluorescent sequencing of MEN1 mutations. Her current research interests are to re-direct tumor-marker and endocrine testing from immunoassay to direct measurement in order to eliminate immunospecificity-related inaccuracy.
