Kathleen Bishop, Ph.D., Director, Program in Aging and Developmental Disabilities, Senior Instructor in Pediatrics, Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities, Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, New York

Dr. Bishop has a degree in Special Education and a Ph.D. in Aging with Disabilities from Syracuse University. She has over thirty years of experience in the disabilities field. Dr. Bishop has just retired from her position as Assistant Director of Staff Development and Training at the Central New York Disabilities Service Office. She is also an Adjunct Faculty Member at the Institute of Gerontology at Utica College of Syracuse University and at the University of the State of New Mexico. She has presented nationally and internationally on various topics related to aging with developmental disabilities with specific expertise in environmental design and women aging with developmental disabilities and health care. In April 1999, Dr. Bishop participated in a World Health Organization (WHO) forum to develop a position paper regarding persons with disabilities and health issues. Additionally, she has presented for the Center on Disease Control and Prevention on Women with Disabilities and Successful Aging. Recently, Dr. Bishop was honored by having her name placed on the Wall of Fame at the Seneca Falls Women's Hall Fame Museum with her numerous accomplishments to be listed under Lives and Legacies on their website. Although Dr. Bishop has just retired from her full-time position, she maintains a full schedule of activities including presenting around the country, providing consultation, and writing her first novel.

 

Developmental Disabilities
