With over ten years of experience in the field of developmental disabilities, Laura’s background includes direct care, staff training, program management and development. Having completed her Master in Public Health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Laura’s focus is in research with a special interest in caregivers of adults with developmental disabilities. Laura won the prestigious 2004 Saward Award for Excellence in Community and Preventive Medicine for her thesis project on future care planning for adults with developmental disabilities living with older caregivers. Growing up in Queens, NY, and becoming a facilitator for the National Coalition Building Institute Welcoming Diversity workshops, have significantly influenced her life and motivated Laura to Chair SCDD's Cultural Competence Committee. This committee is dedicated to creating a work environment and service system that is inclusive and welcoming to all. Laura’s strengths and talents will assist the PADD team to continue to identify ways to improve the lives of older persons with developmental disabilities.
