Faculty Development Programs

Supporting the development of faculty is a high priority in our division. In addition to preparing fellows for careers in academic general pediatrics, we provide extensive individual mentoring of junior faculty in research, education, and scientific writing, and also offer a full repertoire of formal faculty development experiences. For example, we support monthly Child and Adolescent Research Meetings, educational presentations at faculty meetings, and practice sessions for faculty presentations at the national pediatric meetings. Institutionally, faculty enjoy extensive scientific offerings by the University of Rochester Clinical & Translational Science Institute, monthly faculty development workshops and an annual faculty development colloquium for educators, and a host of Grand Rounds and seminar series across all departments.

Moreover, division faculty are heavily involved in prestigious national faculty development activities: Dr. Constance Baldwin founded and is Past Director of the Educational Scholars Program of the Academic Pediatric Association and teaches nationwide about scientific writing. Jeff Kaczorowski directs the American Academy of Pediatrics' Community Pediatrics Training Initiative, which has pioneered an innovative curriculum to engage pediatric residents in a variety of community projects and advocacy activities.
