smARTS (Student Mentoring Through the Arts)

As their PLC/CARE track project, Jeanne Anthon, D.O., Bryan Child, M.D., and Erika Wexler, M.D. developed smARTS (Student Mentoring Through the Arts), which is a weekly after-school program where students at the School Without Walls in Rochester learn and participate in art-based activities with current University of Rochester undergraduates and medical students as coordinators/mentors. It is hypothesized that smARTS will improve behavior and school performance of participating children relative to their non-participating peers.

Residents in the Pediatrics Links to the Community /Child Advocacy Resident Education Track perform community based projects  under the mentorship of C. Andrew Aligne, M.D., M.P.H., Co-director of the PLC/CARE program.
