The contributions of the Strong Children’s Research Center to both basic and clinical nephrology are internationally known and funded by the NIH. The Schwartz formula for creatinine clearance, the use of iohexol disappearance from plasma as a measure of glomerular filtration rate in children, the nomogram “wheel” for determining what a child’s normal blood pressure should be, and the role of extracellular matrix proteins regulating acid-base transport were all developed by Department of Pediatrics researchers in the Center.
