Our faculty and fellows are involved in a wide variety of research pursuits. 

Publications/Presentations

Recent fellows' research projects/interests and scholarly activities include:

  • Elizabeth Scarlett, M.D. with Clement Ren, M.D. in the Pediatric Pulmonary Division did clinical research to determine the work of breathing in infants with RSV bronchiolitis.
  • James Horstmann, M.D. with Mary Caserta, M.D. in Pediatric Infectious Disease and Elise van der Jagt, M.D. studied central line infections and the role of insertion and maintenance bundles on the prevelance of infection in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
  • Renata Ostrowicki, M.D. with Karen Powers, M.D. has studied the use of Ultrasound Dilution to measure Cardiac Output and Cardiac Index in pediatric ICU patients and observing the effects of Lasix on Cardiac Output, Cardia Index, and Systemic Vascular Resistance.
  • Steve Tomek, MD with Jill Cholette, M.D. will be studying increased daily calcium replacement and elevated iCa levels in neonates and infants (<6 months) following cardiac surgery and its association with increased thrombosis, and possibly increased morbidity and mortality.
  • Dan Rogers, M.D. with Elise van der Jagt, M.D. is interested in looking at the effectiveness of medical simulation as both a teaching tool and assessment tool in the PICU.
