Patient Care
SCDD’s clinical programs at the Andrew J. Kirch Developmental Services Center provide fellows with a superb clinical experience.
Our fellows work with children who have a broad array of developmental-behavioral problems, ranging from behavior disorders to physical disabilities, and provide care ranging from primary to tertiary and from NICU follow-up to adolescent-adult transition. Clinical emphases are on Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, speech-language disorders, AD/HD, and physical disabilities such as spina bifida and cerebral palsy. Special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches to service and the coordination of care among multiple service systems.
Community and University collaborations enable a wide array of clinical experiences.
- Fellows participate in The Kirch Center which offers school-based consultations to children and families throughout the region.
- Community rotations provide experiences in supervised primary and consultative care for children with developmental-behavioral concerns. Opportunities include Starlight Pediatrics (the Monroe County Foster Care Clinic), the Monroe Community Hospital (a pediatric skilled nursing facility), the Easter Seals Diagnosis and Treatment Center, community camps, and residential programs.
- Faculty within the U of R, Department of Pediatrics has a solid reputation of providing national leadership and strong liaisons with Community and Preventive Medicine and the Center for Community Health.
- The co-location of the SCDD LEND Program and the Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) Program allows for a special focus on the unique needs of adolescents and young adults with developmental-behavioral disorders.
