General Pediatrics Fellowship
Millennial Fellowship Program
Community Partnerships
Our general pediatrics program at Rochester is unique nationally in its leading role within the Department of Pediatrics, its successful integration of university faculty from a variety of disciplines, and its strong relationship with hundreds of community partners. Side-by-side with both community pediatricians and community agencies, we actively work together to improve the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable children in Rochester.
Our emphasis on community and disparities is congruent with our department’s increasing integration into community programs. Dr. Szilagyi has built his research and leadership career around community health, and Jill Halterman is medical director for the Children’s Institute (http://www.childrensinstitute.net/), a community-based program to improve educational and mental health achievement among inner-city children. We use both mentoring and teaching to help our fellows conduct scholarly research activities and integrate into specific community activities with a focus on reducing health disparities. We have many qualified teachers to fill this mentoring role.
