Masters of Public Health- Clinical Investigation Track
Each fellow is required to obtain a Masters of Public Health in Clinical Investigation (MPH-CI) degree, unless they already have a similar degree. The formal course work gives fellows the knowledge of teaching and research methods needed to function effectively as an academic faculty member in general pediatrics. Based in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine, the 31-credit MPH Program is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and funded by an NHLBI grant. Fellows’ tuition is covered by the University.
The objective of the MPH-CI program is to educate students to combine clinical knowledge and health services research. The academic program provides a recognized credential in clinical epidemiology, clinical decision making, and the evaluation of health care. Required courses are shown in the Table. The Department of Community and Preventive Medicine also offers a rich array of electives relevant to our fellows: e.g. Health, Medicine, and Social Reform; Legal Issues in Health Care; Economics, Policy, and the Health Care System; and Public Health Practice. Degree credits are given for fellows' participation in the Academic Skills Seminars and for completion of a research project.
