Pulmonology Fellowship
Research Facilities
The Neonatal Pulmonary SCOR Program, directed by Robert Notter, Ph.D. offers a laboratory complex whereby, pediatric and adult medicine fellows, postdoctoral (Ph.D.) fellows, and graduate students work in a cooperative and intellectually fertile environment. The research facilities contain all equipment necessary for physiologic, biochemical, and molecular biologic studies. The Pediatric Pulmonary Division also has access to the research pulmonary function laboratories for the Adult Pulmonary Unit and to the engineering skills and facilities of the Department of Radiation Biology and Biophysics where there is particular expertise and experience with the generation and behavior of aerosols. PPC staff and trainees are also working in the well-equipped and nationally funded laboratories of Dr. Barbara Iglewski, Chair, Department of Microbiology (genetics and biology of Pseudomonas aeruginosa).
Bench and translational research activities are also performed in the new Aab Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the Arthur Kornberg Medical Research Building. For a complete list of Research Centers at the University of Rochester visit http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/research.
Strong Children's Research Center (SCRC)
Established in 1989, the Strong Children's Research Center (SCRC) focuses on conducting research dedicated to determining the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases of infants, children and adolescents, as well as on investigations in human development, the delivery of child health services, and interventions in human development, the delivery of child healthy services, and interventions designed to improve the clinical outcomes in pediatric practice. By combining the skills of scientists in the Department of Pediatrics with those in other clinical and basic science departments in the Medical Center, and scientists throughout the University, the SCRC attracts and trains the next generation of pediatric investigators to ensure that children can benefit from the new scientific technologies available. The Center is designed to organize all pediatric research, and to be involved in all aspects of training of pediatric investigators, to enhance collaboration among investigators of all disciplines, and to gain support for individual and joint research projects.
