Professional Bio

Harold Lesser, MD, PhD is Professor of Clinical Neurology in the Department of Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Lesser received his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Cornell University. His medical degree and Ph.D. were received from the University of Rochester. His clinical training included an internship at the University of Rochester followed by a Neurology Residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After completing his residency in 1993, Dr. Lesser was a Neuromuscular Fellow at the University of Michigan. He returned to Rochester in 1994 first as a Senior Instructor in Neurology and then as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology.

He provided both inpatient and outpatient care at Rochester General Hospital. In 1998 he established a private practice in Neurology. He was a local principal investigator for several clinical trials on the treatment of diabetic neuropathy and neuropathic pain. The practice moved to Pittsford in 2011 and in 2015 Dr. Lesser joined the Department of Neurology as a Professor of Clinical Neurology. In this capacity he continues to provide excellent outpatient neurologic care at UR Neurology at Pittsford with a subspecialty focus on electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG & nerve conduction studies) and an ongoing commitment to medical student and resident instruction. Dr. Lesser is board certified in both Neurology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
