Professional Bio

Dr. Moira Szilagyi is Professor of Pediatrics leading national efforts on improving the health of children involved with child welfare and promoting child resilience.

Research Bio

Dr. Szilagyi is recognized nationally for her work in foster care health. She has edited the national health care standards: Fostering Health: Health Care for Children and Adolescents in Foster Care, published by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She served as vice-chair of the Task Force on Foster Care of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is now Chair of the Council on Foster Care Adoption and Kinship Care at the academy. She works closely with national leadership of the AAP, the American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the National Child Traumatic Stress network and other professional and advocacy organizations in shaping the national foster care agenda.

Her funded research focuses on (a) improving comprehensive primary care for children in foster care, (b) enhancing timely identification and appropriate management of behavioral and mental health conditions for children and youth in foster care; and (c) providing enriched after school programs for high risk inner city children.
