Research Bio

Dr. Szilagyi is recognized nationally for her work in foster care health. She has edited the national health care standards: Fostering Health: Health Care for Children and Adolescents in Foster Care, published by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She is vice-chair of the Healthy Foster Care America Coalition, and the Task Force on Foster Care of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She works closely with national leadership of the AAP, the American Psychiatric Association, the Child Welfare League of America, and the National Association of Family Court Judges in shaping the national foster care agenda.

Her funded research focuses on (a) improving comprehensive primary care for children in foster care, and (b) enhancing timely identification and appropriate management of behavioral and mental health conditions for children and youth in foster care. Her additional research centers on enhancing services to high-risk families to prevent abuse and enhance family and child functioning. Much of this research takes place at Starlight Pediatrics, which she directs.
