Research Bio

The goal of my current research is to develop and commercialize a novel cone beam breast computed tomography system, Koning Breast CT (KBCT), into a clinical useful diagnostic breast-imaging tool (problem-solving tool). Specifically, my objective is to provide a compelling body of evidence incorporating both non-contrast and contrast-enhanced KBCT, including IRB-approved clinical trials and reader studies, to show that KBCT imaging can improve the visualization of breast anatomy compared with diagnostic mammography and has at least equivalency with diagnostic mammography in terms of pathologic findings using histopathology as the gold standard. Koning Corporation already has developed the KBCT technology and system, and brought the system to clinical trials at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and six other breast-imaging clinical sites, including two in China. I currently am Director of Research and Development at Koning Corporation and have more than 20 years in radiology and cone beam CT (CBCT) research at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Koning Corporation. I have participated in many NIH-sponsored grants and a Department of Defense-sponsored grant for CBCT technical development including CBCT breast-imaging, breast tumor volume measurement with response to therapy and KBCT-guided biopsy. In addition, I collaborated with other researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications from these projects. As a result of these previous experiences, I am aware of the importance of frequent communication among project members and of constructing a realistic research plan, timeline, and budget. In summary, I have a demonstrated record of successful and productive research projects in CBCT research, and my expertise and experience have prepared me to lead research projects for Koning Corporation.



In addition, I spent more than 5 years in the Foster Research Group at URMC (Dr. Tom Foster, PI) working on research activities in Photodynamic therapy (PDT) and dosimetry, laser scanning confocal microscopy, light scattering and tissue spectroscopy. My work contributed to producing associated control systems and equipment that led to several related peer-reviewed papers.
