Research Bio
Dr. Shone is a health services methodologist, social scientist, and policy expert whose broad career goal is to improve the interface between individuals and the health care system, particularly among vulnerable and underserved children, families, and youth. Her work is focused on access to services, service use, and medical care and health outcomes for vulnerable children and adolescents; addressing disparities by age, income, race/ethnicity, and health status; and evaluating the impact of changes in policies for financing and delivery of care to children.
Her work addresses the organization, financing and delivery of care at individual, community, and system levels in two primary content areas: child health insurance and childhood immunizations. Dr Shone's research activities include the following:
- Teaching and mentoring fellows and faculty in health services research methods
- Organization, financing and delivery of child and adolescent care
- Understanding and improving individual, system, policy/ financing and infrastructure to improve patients' experiences and outcomes in the health system
- Delivery of primary and preventive services to vulnerable child and adolescent populations – ensuring access, equity, quality, and reducing racial/ethnic and socio-economic disparities
- Health behavior, social-emotional status and health education
-SCHIP and children's health insurance market
-Health Literacy and navigating the health care system
-Affordability and accessibility of health care for vulnerable children, adolescents and families
