Research Bio
Dr. Klein is Director of the American Academy of Pediatrics Julius B. Richmond Center of Excellence for Children and Secondhand Smoke. The Center is conducting a national program of research, education and advocacy efforts to engage pediatricians in helping eliminate children's exposure to tobacco. Dr. Klein's other research is on the organization and effectiveness of adolescent health services and on health promotion and disease prevention for children and adolescents. Ongoing studies address:
1) adolescents' access to health care and their care use patterns
2) randomized trials of guideline based adolescent smoking cessation counseling by primary care physicians, with outreach and adjuncts to promote quitting
3) adolescents use of interactive communication and its implications for health care
4) obesity prevention and interventions in primary care practice
