I first discovered the profession of Midwifery as a nursing student during the maternity rotation. I was asked to support a mother during labor, her provider was a nurse midwife. I knew nothing about Midwifery but quickly became captivated by the care, support and empowerment the midwife provided this woman throughout the process of labor. The woman’s labor progressed quickly and the baby was delivered into the gentle and capable hands of the midwife. I was incredibly moved by this and hoped that I would one day be able to provide this kind of care.

I graduated in 1980 with my degree in nursing from Monroe Community College. I returned to school for my Bachelor’s degree in nursing after I had two daughters of my own. I attended Nazareth College of Rochester while working as a nurse on labor and delivery at Genesee Hospital. After Nazareth I was fortunate to attend the University of Rochester for Midwifery from 1995 to 1997. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Midwifery. I have worked in various settings including a rural hospital where women did not readily have access to care, and then a private physician practice with MDs and a nurse practitioner. Prior to joining the University of Rochester Midwifery Group I worked in a community hospital. There I worked with midwives, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. We provided care to patients in labor as well as first assisting the physicians during C/sections and GYN surgery. I attended the RNFA program at the University of Rochester to obtain the training I needed for this.

I was asked to join to join the U of R midwifery group in 2007. It has been my privilege to work with this group of midwives who are amazing professionals as well as caring and compassionate women.

I greatly enjoy working with patients and their families. I believe as providers we can advocate for all individuals and their health and wellbeing. One of my special interests has been providing colposcopy to my patients with cervical pathology. I also enjoy working with adolescents and helping them with their challenges.

As midwives we participate in the education of medical students and residents at URMC. This is an important aspect of our practice that is also very rewarding.

During free time I enjoy relaxing with my family as well as cooking, baking, reading and gardening. I love to travel and especially enjoy going to the beaches of Cape Cod and the mountains of Vermont, though London was perhaps one of my very favorite adventures. I look forward to having the time for many more adventures in the future.

I hope to continue to provide care to families in this wonderful profession for years to come. I feel privileged to be a part of one of the most remarkable events in the life of a family.
