Professional Bio
Dr. Dhakal received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed his internship at the Lehigh Valley Hospital/Penn State program in Allentown, Pennsylvania and later completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center's Strong Memorial Hospital, where he also served as chief resident.
Dr. Dhakal has received several prestigious awards and honors including a High-Dose Rate Brachytherapy Scholarship, Roentgen Resident Research Award, Medical Society of the State of New York Community Service Award, and Joan Jensler Community Outreach Award, among others.
In addition, Dr. Dhakal has first authored numerous publications in leading peer reviewed journals and has presented both locally and nationally on various oncology-related topics.
Patient Care Bio
Dr. Dhakal practices at both Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital. At Strong Memorial Hospital, he specializes in the treatment of all pediatric malignancies, as well as adult lymphomas and sarcomas. He is proficient in the application of stereotactic intracranial and body radiosurgery for both primary and metastatic disease, as well as total body irradiation. At Highland Hospital he accepts referrals for all disease sites, with a focus on gynecologic malignancies.
Dr. Dhakal has a particular clinical and research interest in the long term side effects of cancer therapy and other issues related to cancer survivorship.
