My subspecialty interests in the Imaging Sciences includes Chest, Cardiac, Abdominal, and Pelvic Imaging (include MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and PET CT). I have a special interest in Cardiac MRI and Abdominal MRI. We have a large population of patients referred to URMC for heart failure, so many of our patients are evaluated with MRI to help uncover the etiology of their cardiomyopathy. In addition, we provide MR evaluation of ischemic heart disease, stress cardiac MRI with Regadenoson, cardiac iron quantification, and evaluation of cardiac masses. I started the Cardiac MRI program at URMC in 2004, and have interpreted over 1200 Cardiac MR exams. My initial training in Cardiac MRI was an intensive course with Steven Wolff, MD, PhD at Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging in New York City. I subsequently did a one year sabbatical involving Cardiac MRI research with David Bleumke, MD, PhD at Johns Hopkins University. The primary research involved the MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) Trial, analyzing the cardiac MRI data acquired for that study. Our Cardiac Imaging Section has participated in many clinical trials with our Cardiology Colleagues at URMC.

We also have a active transplant service and image many patients with both CT and MRI for End-Stage Liver Disease and Cirrhosis, some with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). URMC offers a full array of therapies for the treatment of HCC. Cirrhosis can be a very complex entity both in terms of diagnosis and management. We have an active and energetic collaborative program with our Imaging Sciences team and Oncology, Transplant Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Gastroenterology, Pathology, Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Oncology through the Wilmot Cancer Center. In addition, we offer a full array of advanced imaging techniques of the abdomen, including liver iron quantification for hemochromatosis. We will shortly be adding MR Elastography and Fat Quantification.
