He also has special expertise in joint reconstructive and salvage procedures for the hand, wrist, shoulder, and elbow including joint replacements, peripheral nerve surgery, and vascular surgery.
Dr. Elfar is a graduate of both Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Medical School. His Orthopaedic Surgery Residency training was with URMC Orthopaedics. Then, he completed an Advanced Upper Extremity Trauma Fellowship with the AO International. He also completed advanced fellowship training in Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity, including shoulder and elbow reconstruction at the Cincinnati Hand Surgery Center. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Elfar joined URMC Orthopaedics as an Assistant Professor specializing in hand, wrist, shoulder, and elbow surgery in 2008.
If surgery is required, Dr. Elfar uses the convenient and efficient Clinton Crossings Procedure Rooms as well as the Sawgrass URMC Surgery Center for outpatient surgical procedures when possible. Both facilities are staffed with team members who are experts in the care of patients undergoing outpatient procedures. Dr. Elfar also works closely with our specially trained hand and upper extremity therapists in the Hand Rehabilitation program to direct your post-surgical care and to ensure a fast and successful recovery. When bracing is ordered by Dr. Elfar, our hand therapists are prepared to fashion custom orthoses on site the same day as your appointment.
