Research Bio
The primary interest of my lab is to study the mechanisms of neurodegeneration induced by genetic mutations, environmental toxicants and gene-environment interactions in Parkinson's disease. Our ultimate goal is to utilize this mechanistic knowledge to develop neuroprotective therapies for Parkinson's disease and perhaps other neurodegenerative disorders as well.
Our experimental approach is to use both genetic and toxicant induced cell culture and animal models of Parkinson's disease. Major techniques that are routinely used in our lab include stereotactic surgery, in vivo microdialysis, HPLC, stereological cell counting, confocal imaging, immunohistochemistry and other standard molecular biology methods such as immunoblotting, RT-PCR, gene cloning and more recently, rAAV mediated gene transfer.
