Dr. Dongwen Wang is a formally trained informatician. His research has been focusing on use of informatics approach to facilitate the translation of biomedical research into clinical practice. This involves modeling of biomedical knowledge and representation of them in computer-interpretable formats, management of biomedical data and knowledge within the context of clinical workflow, development of online resources for clinical education, and delivery of behavioral interventions to improve processes and outcomes of clinical practice and biomedical research. His work has been applied to address a wide variety of problems, such as improvement of immunization rate, support of post-CABG critical pathway, screening of patients with major depression, assistance of diabetic foot-care, management of HIV/AIDS patients, enhancement of visit compliance in ambulatory mental health care, and facilitation of subject recruitment and retention for multi-center clinical trials.

Dr. Wang is an active member of the biomedical informatics research community. He has published papers in various informatics journals and given talks at national and international conferences. He has participated in reviewing research grants and papers, organizing academic conferences, and developing techincal standards. His research is funded by both government and industry sponsors.
