Research Bio

Dr. McKee's research focuses on health literacy among linguistic minority populations and its effects on health care including cardiovascular risk factors. He also works closely with health care issues for Deaf populations, including communication barriers.
Dr. McKee also received a K01 Career Development Award (2010-2015) through the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to study the effects of health literacy on cardiovascular risk factors for Deaf American Sign Language users. As part of this research, he is developing a new health literacy instrument that is accessible for this population.

Dr. McKee also works closely the National Center for Deaf Health Research, a Center for Disease Control (CDC) funded Rochester Prevention Research Center. The NCDHR's mission is health promotion and disease prevention with deaf and hard-of-hearing people and their families through community-based participatory research (CBPR). He is involved with the Deaf Health Community Committee and the Task Force on Health Care Careers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community.
Dr. McKee is also involved in the competitive Grant Generating Project, sponsored by the sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the North American Primary Care Research Group, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
