Research Bio

Dr. Hindman is interested in understanding the biological basis for corneal and ocular surface diseases and the impact of those disease processes on optical outcomes. She frequently collaborates with other scientists at the Flaum Eye Institute and the University of Rochester, many times incorporating the use of advanced imaging instrumentation developed at the University of Rochester. Her work is translational, spanning basic wet lab science, preclinical models, and clinical research. Dr. Hindman has received a National Institutes of Health grant to support these scientific endeavors.

Dr. Hindman is a Rochester, NY native who returned to the area after training at Stanford University, Harvard Medical School, and The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University. She completed her fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease at the Flaum Eye Institute.

Dr. Hindman has expertise in the medical treatment of cornea and ocular surface disease and in the latest surgical techniques including:
- penetrating, lamellar (DALK) and endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK)
- keratoprosthesis
- laser refractive surgery (including customized and conventional LASIK and PRK as well as PTK).

Dr. Hindman also helps to educate the next generation of doctors as the Director of the Ophthalmology Clerkships for the University of Rochester medical students.

Dr. Hindman's professional memberships include:
- American Academy of Ophthalmology
- American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery
- Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology
- Wilmer Residents' Association
- New York State Ophthalmological Society
- Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists
- Cornea Society.
