Patient Care Bio

Matthew J. Hilton, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and a faculty member in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Rochester. He serves as the Director of the Histology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Imaging (HBMI) Core Facility in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research. Dr. Hilton has extensive research experience in the field of musculoskeletal development and disease. Dr. Hilton has published his research in high impact journals such as: Development, Nature Medicine, Cell, and Developmental Biology. He was awarded an American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) Young Investigator Award in 2004 for his work investigating the novel role for Wnt/Beta-cantenin in regulating cartilage and bone development.

He has also been awarded the Harold M. Frost ASBMR Young Investigator Award (2008) for his investigations into the role of Notch signaling during skeletal development and disease. Dr. Hilton has active research programs in the areas of skeletal stem/progenitor cell regulation, cartilage development, genetic and age related cartilage diseases (osteoarthritis), and mechanisms of fracture repair.
