Patient Care Bio
Dr. Yousuf Khalifa is a clinician/scientist who specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of the cornea, ocular surface, and anterior segment of the eye, as well as ocular inflammatory disorders. His surgical skills encompass cornea transplantation techniques such as penetrating keratoplasty, deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), and Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK). Dr. Khalifa also performs Intacs implantation, pterygium surgery, cataract surgery, and laser refractive surgery, such as LASIK and PRK. In addition, Dr. Khalifa specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of Uveitis, with a special interest in biologic therapies. His approach to care is as a compassionate scientist deeply concerned with quality outcomes and patient comfort.
Dr. Khalifa's research interests are numerous and include the study of ocular inflammatory disease and corneal wound healing. He is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and has already amassed an impressive list of scholarly publications.
Dr. Khalifa is a 2004 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia. He remained at the College where he completed a medicine internship and a residency in ophthalmology. He served as chief resident in 2008. From Georgia he traveled to the University of California, San Francisco as a Heed Fellow where he completed a fellowship in Uveitis & Medical Cornea. He completed a subsequent fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Khalifa is Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
