Dr. Cao's research interest is in pancreatic and liver disease.
She was a research associate in the Department of Pathology at Northwestern University in Chicago from 1998 through 2003. She worked on several projects that included hepatocarcinogenesis, pancreas stem cells, and pancreatic carcinogenesis. Her specific focus was on mice and rat models of peroxisome proliferator-induced hepatocarcinogenesis and acyl-CoA oxidase deficient mice models of spontaneous hepatocarcinogenesis. From 2003 through 2005 she was a research associate in the Department of Medicine at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare where she studied the effect of ApoE on glia-mediated inflammation induced by oligometric verus fibrillar amyloid beta 1-42.
