The salivary glands are important for their physiological role in digestion and oral health, and the site of pathological processes, from autoimmune diseases to cancer. I am using my experience in vertebrate embryology and signal transduction to understand the molecular processes underlying the development, maintenance, and regeneration of normal salivary glands, as well as their pathological alteration in oncogenesis.
