PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program

About the Program

The Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center is a 12-month, full-time curriculum that provides the essential elements needed to mold a well-rounded clinical pharmacist. This intensive training involves activities in a wide variety of practice settings, including:

Pharmacists completing the residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center will have gained the skills necessary to be competent and confident practitioners of pharmaceutical care for patients in multiple health care settings. The resident will function as a key member of the health care team and be accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes for their patients. These pharmacists will develop the skills necessary to become valuable providers of education on medication therapy related topics to other health care professionals, patients and the community. The resident will demonstrate professional maturity by developing and following a personal philosophy of excellence, monitoring his or her own performance and exhibiting a commitment to the profession of pharmacy.

Rotation Schedule

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency is tailored to the needs and interests of the individual resident. The schedule of the pharmacy practice year is outlined below.

Longitudinal Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacy Practice Experience

Following completion of the orientation period, each pharmacy resident will be required to provide pharmaceutical care services and pharmacokinetics consults every third weekend. In addition, the Pharmacokinetics Service will be covered by the residents on holidays. A Clinical Specialist will be on call and will available if problems arise or discussion of a patient's status is needed.

Elective rotations are designed to customize the pharmacy practice experience to the needs and desires of the particular resident. Possible electives include:
