PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Residency Program
The Infectious Diseases Residency at the University of Rochester is a 12-month, full-time curriculum. The primary goal of the program is to guide the resident, who possesses in-depth knowledge and skills in clinical pharmacy practice, with a specialty in both clinical laboratory medicine and infectious diseases. This intensive training involves activities in a wide variety of practice settings, including:
- Rounding with the adult and pediatric Infectious Diseases Consult Services
- Rounding with the HIV Consult Service. Since persons infected with HIV are managed in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, the resident will also have the opportunity to provide pharmaceutical care/medication counseling to patients in the Infectious Diseases Ambulatory Clinic.
- Optimizing antibiotics for hospitalized patients through the Antimicrobial Management Program
- Learning about the diagnostic procedures in clinical microbiology/serology through the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
- Teaching numerous patient populations at the University of Rochester, as well as surrounding universities
Accreditation
The PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Residency is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). Its goals, objectives, and evaluation procedures are consistent with the goals and objectives of infectious diseases residency training established by ASHP.
