Summer Internship Program
Our internship program is designed to produce a trained clinical- and distribution-ready Pharmacy intern to assist our institution in programs during the summer. Upon completion of the program we have trained the interns to immediately step in and be a productive team member as a pharmacist.
How To Apply
Recruiting for the summer starts back in October. Pharmacists from the University of Rochester Medical Center attend career day activities at the University at Buffalo and Albany College of Pharmacy. Meeting us at that point in time is a great start. If you are not from one of those schools you will need to contact us by the end of November.
In order to apply you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen (no exceptions)
- You must be attending a U.S. or Canadian Pharmacy School
- You must be in your P1 year or greater (P1 is first year of pharmacy school not freshman year)
- Be able to provide your own housing and transportation

Program Overview
Objectives
- Learn to use the latest technology (Pyxis, TPN Baxa MM23, computerized order entry)
- Understand all aspects of our distribution system
- Develop presentation skills
- Develop and perform projects (includes DUE/DUR's, computer skills and chart reading)
- Learn basic and advanced clinical skills
- Integrate distribution and clinical roles
Details of the Internship Program
- Six clinical positions
- Attractive schedule: Mon – Fri day shift
- No weekends or holidays
- Starts mid-May and ends Late-August

Past Summer Presentations
Current interns are required to do one short and one long Powerpoint presentation. The presentations are given in a controlled environment to allow immediate feedback on performance. The long presentation will be repeated for the entire pharmacy department at the end of the summer. Topic ideas are provided.
