Summer Pharmacy Internship Program
Our internship program is designed to provide an educational experience in a variety of settings within hospital pharmacy. Upon completion of the program, the intern will have gained the skills needed to be a productive member of a pharmacy team.
How To Apply
Recruiting for the summer starts back in October. Pharmacists from the University of Rochester Medical Center attend career day activities at the local schools of pharmacy.
In order to apply you must meet the following criteria:
- Attend a United States or Canadian pharmacy school
- Eligible for a New York State intern permit
- Must be in at least the first professional year of pharmacy school
- Able to provide your own housing and transportation

Program Overview
Objectives
- Improve presentation skills
- Gain experience in completing research projects (includes drug utilization reviews, computer skills and chart reading)
- Learn basic and advanced clinical skills
- Understand how to integrate distribution and clinical roles
- Increase knowledge of the latest technology
- Understand all aspects of a hospital distribution system
Details of the Internship Program
- 4-6 clinical positions
- Schedule: Monday – Friday day shift, no weekend or holidays
- Starts mid-May and ends Late-August
- Optional winter/spring breaks
- Flexible time off

First Year Rotations (Technical Focus)
- Cancer Center
- Inpatient distribution

Second Year Rotations (Clinical Focus)
Rotation availability will vary from year to year depending on preceptor availability and rotation availability when integrating this program with our residency program needs. Possible rotations include:

- Intensive Care (Medical, Surgical, Cardiovascular, Pediatric, Burn/Trauma)
