Freemanology

This page is dedicated to the understanding of the odd way in which we speak in the Freeman Lab.  For those people who do not know us personally, we tend to mold the english language (maybe it's better to say "abuse" than mold the english language, and in many cases, english isn't even used) to the situation at hand. 
 

Bo-bo: (noun)  a real idiot (not to be confused with the common everyday idiot).  Hey Liz, did you read in the paper about the guy who died because he forgot to tie the end of bunggie cord to the bridge he was jumping from?  Yeh, what a real Bo-bo! (no bunggie jumpers were hurt in the derivation of this word).

BRAK: (interjection) expletive, referring to utter disgust.  Used at least a dozen times per individual per day. BRAK!!!! My gel leaked again!!! (followed by crashing of glass and acrylamide flung everywhere.)

Crazy Talk: (noun) anything spoken out of anyone else's mouth other than Bob Crowder's. Bob, did you hear that there is a new antibody that recognizes PI3 kinase??  Response by Bob:  That's crazy talk!!!

Filth: (nickname) a loving nickname given to Patrick from Leah "Disgusting" Laroque.  Can also be substituted with Stinky, Putrid, Puke, etc.

Hip: (adjective) What Bob Freeman is and the rest of us aren't.  Need I say more???  Actually it might help if I do.  Bob is hip because he listens to the band Chumba Whumba.

Incessant Yammering: (noun) any basic speech pattern, with no discernible subject, and no identifiable beginning or end, coming out of the general vicinity of one Patrick Sarmiere. May also be applicable to Liz on more than one cup of coffee or beer.  Especially beer! For crying out loud Pat, could you give my ears a break and stop with the incessant yammering! -Liz on a daily basis.

-ione(s): (suffix) ending that is consistently dropped into every sentence involving a scientific process within the Freeman Lab.  This is to make the mundane experiments seemed "spiced up" or "cool".  A good psychological trick we play on ourselves.  Hey Crowder, are you doing any injectioniones today? Actually Pat, I was planning on doing a dissectionione and a plamid prepione. 

Patchuli: (nickname) a random blend of syllables made up by Eileen resulting in a nickname for Patrick.  The derivation of this name is not known, however it may have somehow arisen from Pat's other nickname of Pasquali.  Obviously, Eileen does not speak fluent Italian.   

Reagents: (noun) items which one may need to successfully reproduce a recipe.  Not to be confused with those items ordered from Sigma or New England Bioloabs.   I was going to go to Wegmans (local food store) to get the reagents for chocolate chip cookies, anybody need anything?

Unthaw: (verb) logically speaking, meaning to convert from a liquid state to a frozen state; however, in Crowder's demented world, it's vice-versa. I need to unthaw some PC12 cells from the liquid nitrogen.

Whoa is me: phrase used by Yoshi Lee to attract attention and gain sympathy form others in the lab. Whoa is me Pat, my experiment didn't work again. 

Yoshi Lee: (nickname) nickname for Eileen Yoshida.  Given the name because she expressed extreme dislike towards it, now she's stuck with it.  Sorry Yoshi.
